Weighted Feed Instructions — Beurer Infant Scale
Before You Begin
-
Place the scale on a firm, level surface.
-
Make sure it reads 0.0 before weighing.
-
If using a blanket/towel, press TARE after placing it so the display resets to zero.
-
Use the HOLD function if your baby is moving, so the scale locks the reading.
-
If your model only shows weight in pounds with decimals (not pounds + ounces), see the conversion tip below.
Steps for a Weighted Feed
1. First Weight (Before Feeding)
-
Place baby (in dry diaper/light clothing) gently on the scale.
-
Record as Pre-feed Weight.
2. Feed Baby Normally
-
Feed at breast or with bottle as usual.
-
Pause for burping if that’s part of your routine.
3. Second Weight (After Feeding)
-
Reset the scale to zero.
-
Weigh baby again and record as Post-feed Weight.
4. Calculate Intake
-
Subtract Pre-feed from Post-feed.
-
The difference = milk intake.
-
1 gram ≈ 1 milliliter of milk.
-
Conversion Tip: Pounds with Decimals
If the scale shows decimal pounds only:
-
Take the decimal portion and multiply by 16 (since 1 lb = 16 oz).
-
Example: 13.50 lb = 13 lb 8 oz (0.50 × 16 = 8).
-
Subtract Pre-feed from Post-feed after converting to pounds + ounces.
Sample
-
Pre-feed: 13.20 lb → 13 lb 3.2 oz
-
Post-feed: 13.85 lb → 13 lb 13.6 oz
-
Intake = 10.4 oz
Important Notes
-
Small differences are normal; intake varies each feeding.
-
This is only one tool; your consultant will also look at latch, diapers, and growth.
-
Always share results with your IBCLC for interpretation.
